#8 - Modigliani, James Martin Gray.
I rather abhor poetry that is mostly prose with short lines, and this “epic heroic style” business doesn’t really excuse it for me.

Why is it certain portraits
such as Survage or Derain
have one eye blank, the other
sharp and fully focussed?
He explained it thus:
one eye looks on the world
the other is internal
held in a single image
a necessary icon.
I do love Modi like candy, though, so I forgive it much.
