#2 - #6 - The Unstrung Harp, The Listing Attic, The Doubtful Guest, The Object Lesson, The Bug Book, Edward Gorey. Yes, I am being a jerk and considering all these as separate books. They were published separately, and I wouldn’t hesitate if I’d come home from the bookstore with a big pile of picture books. That’s good enough for me. The Unstrung Harp was the best of the lot so far, since I love reading about the miseries of novelists who actually get published.
“Several weeks later, the loofah trickling over his knees, Mr Earbrass mulls over an awkward retrospective bit that ought to go in Chapter II. But where? Even the voice of an omniscient author can hardly afford to interject a seemingly pointless anecdote concerning Ladderback in Tibet when the other characters are feverishly engaged in wondering whether to have the pond at Disshiver Cottage dragged or not.”
