They were published separately, and I wouldn’t hesitate if I’d come home from the bookstore with a big pile of picture books. That’s good enough for me. The Unstrung Harp was the best of the lot so far, since I love reading about the miseries of novelists who actually get published.

Even the voice of an omniscient author can hardly afford to interject a seemingly pointless anecdote concerning Ladderback in Tibet when the other characters are feverishly engaged in wondering whether to have the pond at Disshiver Cottage dragged or not.”
